Today he is the director of SurfEXPLORE, an international team who plan and execute missions along lost coasts. The group document their trials and tribulations chasing swells in the hidden corners for tv and print as well as the internet. John and the crew have discovered flawless waves tucked away in Madagascar, the Caribbean and even secret spots in Indonesia you’ve never heard of.
John has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of perfection in both surf and photography. Along both the instagram influencers and the rule of selfies he was crawling his way through the mud of estuaries, dodging thugs in townships and ducking typhoons in the name of his art.

All this has seen John lead parties of young professional surfers across the globe for just about every surf and adventure magazine you can name and a bunch you probably couldn’t. Arguably the most famous of which was the discovery of Cloud Nine in the Philippines. Today it is considered the country’s preeminent wave, it reopened the Philippines to the world of surfing and offered the community a positive ecotourism alternative to heavy development.
John passionately believes that surfing can be a force for good both environmentally and culturally, and that surfers, divers, windsurfers, kiteboarder, all of us, can be positive ambassadors when traveling.
